Gökhan Yorgancıgil
1970 yılında Aydın’da doğdu. Kayseri Fen Lisesi’ni ve ardından İTÜ makine mühendisliği bölümünü bitirdi. Lise yıllarında öyküler yazdı, üniversite yıllarında yönetmen yardımcılığı yaparak sinemaya atıldı. Halit Refiğ ve Yücel Çakmaklı gibi ustaların bazı sinema ve TV projelerinde yardımcılığını yaptı. 1997 yılından itibaren kendi yazdığı bazıları Almanya, Kırgızistan, Kazakistan, Kenya, Zengibar, Güney Afrika Cumhuriyeti ve ABD’de olmak üzere belgeseller ve kısa metrajlı dramaları yönetti. 2007 kasımında Türkiye’de gösterime giren, 2009 Worldfest Houston Film Festivalinde iki ayrı jüri özel üdülü kazanan, Oktay Kaynarca, Hazım Körmükçü, Görkem Yeltan ve Damla Tokel’in başrolleri paylaştığı Sıfır Dediğimde filmini yazıp yönetti. 2013 yılında yedi bölümlük Afrika ve Osmanlı isimli bir belgeseli tamamlamıştır. 2008’den itibaren dersler, seminerler vermekte ve senaryo yazımı atölyeleri düzenlemektedir. Gökhan Yorgancıgil, evli ve iki çocuk babasıdır.

Gokhan Yorgancigil was born in Aydin, near Mediterranean coast of Turkey. He started to write short stories in his high school years while he was discovering his interest on arts he also studied science and technology willingly. Due to his engagement and love of cinema he started to his film career as an assistant director while he was a student of mechanical engineering. He continued to working as a director’s assistant during his college years. He collaborated with veteran film directors Halit Refig and Yucel Cakmakli for their cinema and television projects. His short film debut “Escape from” (1994) was screened at the Ankara Film Festival. He made documentary films in various countries including a documentary in 2004 with the author Chingiz Aitmatov, who is best known as a major figure in Kyrgyz and Russian literature, his books were translated into 150 languages. After making surveys in all email groups related with Turkish people living in Germany, Gokhan Yorgancigil wrote and directed the documentary Evet-Ja; A Look to German-Turkish Marriages in 2005. It was 2007 when he directed his first feature-length film Sifir Dedigimde ( On the Count of Zero ). The film took place in Austin Film Festival, the festival’s lineup of Marquee Screenings in 2008. On the Count of Zero also won two different jury prizes at the Worldfest Houston Film Festival in 2009. The director who also added the documentary film Kenya: Keşfedilmeyi Bekleyen Topraklar ( Kenya, A Land Still Waiting to Be Explored ) (2009) to his film credits, and completed his latest work Afrika ve Osmanlı, ( Africa and Ottomans ) another documentary film, in 2014. The seven episodes documentary aired on domestic and international channels of TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) in different languages including English, Kurdish and Arabic in 2015. Gokhan Yorgancigil also give seminars and lectures about filmmaking and screenwriting in universities and independent institutions since 2008.
